Introducing Newest Member of 'Team OUI'

August 13, 2012

We are very excited to welcome our new Comprehensive Radiation Oncologist,
Kevin Forsythe, MD.

After being diagnosed and successfully treated for a high risk cancer as a college student, Dr. Forsythe found his calling as an oncologist and dedicated his career to helping fellow cancer patients and survivors.

While simultaneously pursuing his medical studies at Stanford, he was also awarded a competitive research grant from the prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute to conduct basic science research on developing new treatments for cancer. He also conducted translational research in immunotherapy and cancer vaccines during his undergraduate education. He received his specialty training in Radiation Oncology at the venerable Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City where he gained comprehensive experience in General Radiation Oncology, Stereotactic RadioSurgery (SRS), Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT), Intensity Modulated and Image Guided Radiotherapy (IMRT/IGRT), and Brachytherapy (aka, radioactive seed implantation). During his residency training he continued to author scientific research articles and distinguished himself by winning training fellowship awards in areas of LDR and HDR Brachytherapy from the American Brachytherapy Society. He also had the honor of presenting his original research at the World Congress of Brachytherapy, an international scientific conference which is held only once every 4 years.

As a cancer survivor himself, Dr. Forsythe considers it an honor and privilege to help patients and their family members understand the complex nature of their disease and to help them choose among the sometimes bewildering treatment options that are available. He is available for “second opinion” consultations on any type of solid tumor diagnosis and he will spend as much time with you as necessary to answer all of your questions.

Dr. Forsythe and his family moved to the Eugene/Springfield area after his wife received an appointment to teach at the University of Oregon School of Law. In his spare time he enjoys outdoor activities, culinary arts, music, scuba diving, staying fit and spending time with his family.
