About Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction, or the inability to achieve or maintain an erect penis, is one of the most common sexual problems for men.
Erectile dysfunction is often caused by low levels of testosterone, a breakdown of healthy vascular tissue in the penis, problems in the nervous system and psychological issues. While some causes – such as lower testosterone – are more common as you age, other illnesses as well as drug or alcohol abuse can also contribute to the problem.
The most common treatment for erectile dysfunction is oral medication to boost the body’s natural signals during sex. If you don’t respond well to oral medication, injections or suppositories are also available.
Vacuum erection devices are also available if you prefer a drug-free option, and in severe cases, a surgical implant or prosthesis may be needed to restore erectile health.
